Gundog training classes 2004 - WORCESTERSHIRE
Training will be on Wednesday evenings as usual, and I hope to start on April
7th. Classes will be once a fortnight for each group and the dates will be sent
out once I know the numbers for each.
Puppy and Beginner. These classes, will be for young or
inexperienced older dogs. The aim will be to start training a dog from the
beginning. The emphasis will be on teaching handlers how to train their dog and
on making sure that dogs and handlers perfect each small step of training before
moving onto the next step. Although the class will be for only 1 hour per
fortnight, handlers will be expected to practice at home and will be given
'home-work'. Handlers will be encouraged to attend other classes (without dogs)
to observe Novice and Open levels to gain experience of the standards aimed for,
and also to help in throwing dummies etc.
Novice. This class will be for dogs, which have been
taught the basics and ready to learn the next stages of training. The emphasis
will be on teaching handlers how to teach their dogs more complex stages of
training on directional work and in general dogs will be expected to be steady,
stopping on the whistle, instant recall, and able to cope with a marked retrieve
with a minimum of help, with good presentation.
Open. This class will be for dogs, which have a F.T. award, won
a Novice GWT or have an award in an Open GWT. (Non-competitive dogs will be
considered for this class, but they will need to be of Open standard). Dogs will
need to be steady, on the whistle and able to cope with some handling. The aim
of the class will be to sharpen up handling techniques and increase a dog's
experience in different types of retrieve, increased distances and a variety of
different terrain.
If you are interested in coming to training classes please look at the
information above and decide which class would be most suitable for your dog
(talk to me if you are not sure), I will send a list of dates, venues,
directions etc. as soon as these are ready (Feb/March). I should also be pleased
to hear from anyone willing to volunteer their services to dummy throw/help etc.
at other classes.
The cost of the classes will be a total of £20 per person/per dog, for the
season (approx. 10 sessions). It will not be possible for one person to run more
than one dog in each class, but you may bring a second dog to another class. The
classes are for members of the MGRC only so please renew your membership by
sending a cheque for £5 to Mrs. J. Ryder, (Tel. 01663 734159) Tunstead Milton
Farm, Tunstead Milton, Whaley Bridge, High Peak, Stockport, SK12 7ER. or contact
her for an application form to join.
I hope everyone has enjoyed their Winter activities and that the dogs are not
too much out of control following the excitements of the shooting season. I am
looking forward to seeing everyone again and to meeting new members joining us
for the first time.
Hope to hear from you all soon. A K Lawrence
