The Golden Retriever Club of Northumbria was first registered with the Kennel Club in 1978, with the intention of providing competitive and social activities for enthusiasts in the Northumberland - Durham area. It was intended that the Club would encourage both show and working disciplines. The first Championship Show was held in 1980, and the first Field Trial in 1985.
