A.V. Puppy & Novice Working Test, Sunday 11th August 2002

Morton Grange, East Harlsey

by kind permission of Sir Joseph & Lady Barnard
Sponsored by Eukanuba

The club's final working test of the year, sponsored by Eukanuba, took place on Sunday 11th August at Morton Grange, East Harlsey by kind permission of Sir Joseph and Lady Barnard. Judges for the day were Dave Haycock and Les Dixon.

The weather produced a pleasant day for competitors at this lovely ground in North Yorkshire. There were 16 entries for puppy and 19 for novice. The club was also pleased to welcome two Austrian visitors, Bianca Puritscher and Simone Lhota who were touring the north of England with their labradors.

The morning started with the puppy test - 4 tests in total comprising a simple mark, a short walk-up, a double mark and a water mark. The puppy entry had dogs ranging in age from 18 months down to 8 months so the standard was varied but generally good. There was a run off for 3rd place but the clear winner was Paul Owens with his lab Kenmillone Lieutenant.

The novice test was underway before lunch. Again, there were 4 tests in total: a blind, a water mark, a walk-up with blind behind and mark in front and the last test was a mark and blind. The clear winner was Glyn Coupar with his Golden Paiute Pete.

Thanks to Sir Joseph and Lady Barnard for use of the ground and to Eukanuba for generous sponsorship.

A.V. Novice & Open Working Test
Naworth Castle
Saturday 27th April 2002

by kind permission of Mr P C W Howard

Sponsored by Eukanuba

The club's first working test of the year, sponsored by Eukanuba, took place on Saturday 27th April at Naworth Castle by kind permission of Mr P C W Howard. Judges for the day were Steve and Anne Crookes.

The weather produced a pleasant day for competitors at this lovely ground near Brampton, Cumbria and the event attracted an entry of 23 for novice and 29 for the open test.

Four tests were set for both novice and open events which made excellent use of the woodland and river at this lovely ground. The novice test comprised a 2-dog walk up with marks forward and behind; a blind on an island in the river; a mark across undulating ground and a beck and a mark and a blind in the woodland. There was a run-off for first place between Bob Stobbart's Golden Retriever bitch Lady Eppleton and Margaret Pearce's Labrador Riaghyll Dalmore with the Golden taking the prize.

The open test started after lunch with Anne judging a blind at an angle across the river while Steve judged a mark through the trees in the wood. Once these were completed there was a 3-dog walk up in the wood with Steve, with a mark forward and a blind behind for each dog. Meanwhile Anne judged a mark and blind also in the wood over a wall, beck and up a bank.

Margaret Pearce found herself in her second run-off for the day with Riaghyll Dalmore against Peter Burton's Ft Ch Saxaphone Express and Craig Spencer's Debutante Wendy. However, first prize was given to Peter Burton whose dog made the best job of a difficult mark across a beck and thick cover to retrieve a dummy thrown onto open ground beyond.

Thanks to Philip Howard for use of the ground and to Eukanuba for generous sponsorship.
